Summer Spools - Step Three

This step involves a little applique. If you do not like applique 
you can make a few more spools and replace the
 applique with a few more blocks. 

Using your favorite applique technique add these motifs
to your 11-1/2" square cut from background fabric.

To print images right click on image. It will open in a new window.
Left click on image, click on save image as.
Save document to a place you can find it again.
Open document and print.
 

Add four patches using 1-1/4" squares from your scraps.
Add a little black button to your rotary cutting after quilting.
Now that all the parts are done we will put it all together next week.

Happy Independence Day

Happy Independence Day from Temecula Quilt Co
Enjoy this little tutorial for a Patriotic Pincushion
Supplies Needed:
two 3-1/2" x 4-1/2" red rectangles
one 2" square  blue print
one 4-1/2" x 5-1/2" rectangle flannel or batting
11 small white buttons
hand quilting thread - I like YLI
#12 pearl cotton - I used Valdani P4
Filling - I used crushed walnut shells
  1 | Draw a line 1-1/2" from bottom of rectangle
2 | Layer flannel or batting and hand stitch on line using YLI
3 | Iron under all 4 edges on blue print square.
4 | Place square in upper left hand corner.
5 | Stitch in place using pearl cotton and add a little star in center.
6 | With right sides together stitch around rectangle with 1/4" seam
and leave a large opening on bottom.
7 | Clip corners and turn right side out.
 8 | In half inch increments mark lines for stitching and button placement
9 | Stitch lines and add buttons as you go using pearl cotton. 
10 | Fill with walnut shells and stitch opening closed.
I made a few for friends and I also have a little something for you.
