Fussy Friday #8

Marcus Brothers - Judie Rothermel

I have been thinking about a few different ways to set my
stars when they are all done. Here are two different options.
This version is set with 2" hexagons and gives the
layout a little more open look.

This version is set with the same 2" diamond we are using
to make our star and keeps everything tight.

If you choose one of these settings you will need 1 yard
of setting fabric. I am not sure if I will be adding borders at
this point. I will wait and see. Check out my
Pinterest Board - English Paper Piecing for a few more ideas.

I would love to know what you think, please leave a comment.

  1. I was thinking of using the diamond to set them together but do like the more open look of the hexagons. I think I'll just wait and see. Lovely stars. Do you have a definite plan for how many you will make?

  2. Oh, my! Thanks for pointing me toward your Pin... page; what fun. I like both of your lay-outs and was leaning more toward the one with the hexies between until I went to Pinterest! I'm especially fond of the quilts that look like kalaidescopes. I'm a bit behind and only have 3 stars complete and a couple of more cut out. This is totally new to me and I'm really enjoying learning something new.

  3. I also went to your Pinterest English piecing site. I am hesitant about the hexies but maybe with the right fabric it would be fine. lots of space will be with this layout. I am totally enjoying this project. my first time using the glue pen and I love it. Thank you for getting me going on this one!

  4. I think the hexagon layout to give the stars more space. That way the eye can rest between appreciated the fussy cuts on each star. This is going to look fabulous all finished!

  5. Ooohh I love your stars! I like them set with the hexagons. It looks like it would grow bigger faster :0) I can't wait to see what fabric you choose to set them with.

  6. I wonder how it would be with a little bit lighter fabric using the hexagon, but then I like the diamonds as well. No help from me I guess. Love paper piecing!

  7. I think I will use the hexagons to finish mine! I really like the more open look. Less busy, giving the eye somewhere to rest and enjoy the stunning stars. I have been wanting to try EPP for quite sometime, just never made the leap until now. Thanks for the inspiration! I love it!

  8. hello Sheryl, I just hopped over from LuAnns. I have a large pile of these stars, started last fall, with no particular plan on how to set them. I shall be interested to see what you decide. I started making every star it's own surround of more diamonds...but I still can't decide!

  9. I pinned both of your photos with the layouts but think I might like the one with diamonds between. I'm trying to visualize how Kath's diamonds look with a surround on each one. I think they would end up looking like they were set with a hexagon? Anyway, when you post one star week it keeps me going, and I love EPP.

  10. Hi Sheryl, I was wondering how many rows and the number of stars...to date I have made 30 stars....I absolutely love your/this project....first time I used the glue pen and hooked...so much quicker than basting....I am undecided...leaning towards joining with the the diamonds..but also like the hexagons...will we have enough papers from the kit we received...or will we need to purchase more....first time I saw Pininterest as well.....thankyou so much for this project...Kind Regards, Lyn

  11. I love hexagones and have yet to try the diamonds. I have the cut paper pieces that await in my sewing basket... I love the fabric you chose but I'm wondering if you went into a lot of trouble to get the prints to match. Very beautiful and probably worth the trouble...

  12. I also like the more open look setting. I was wondering also
how many you will have made when you stop? These are like eating one potato chip! Can't stop after one! They are so much fun!

  13. I like option 2/ hexagon setting. You can see the individual stars better I think.

  14. I prefer diamond option, because using hexagons does not highlight the geometry : i explain the diamond option using with one same pattern geometry in different direction makes the quilt beautiful and interesting
