It Is The Little Things

This little roll of scotch tape has changed my English Paper
Piecing life! I like EPP, but was always disappointed when
my stitches showed. I tried a few things to diminish their
appearance, matching thread and smaller stitches did help
but the flat stitch technique sealed the deal. We had Shannon
a guest Hexologist visit my Tuesday night class to teach us
where we have been going wrong. She uses the flat stitch
technique and the stitches are completely invisible. There
are a few tutorials on YouTube if you are a visual learner.
You can find them here and here. Click the image below
to see a quick look at my step by step process.

  4. Ha! Such a simple idea, and the end of the problem. I've actually put my hexies away because I couldn't manage to hide those stitches. I'll happily give this a try. Thanks, Sheryl!

  7. Thank you for sharing! I'll definitely be trying this technique. I normally use the ladder stitch.

  8. I started doing this just to keep the cat from messing up my layouts! I then discovered how nice it was to stitch the units together with the flat stitch. I never thought of using scotch tape - I used some blue painters tape! Lol

  10. I was waiting in my car for my daughter to finish her shopping and had brought my "busy bag" with some hand piecing for a tumbling blocks charm quilt. Didn't have any tape with me but tried the seaming technique anyway. It worked great until I ran out of light. Darn these short winter days anyway.
