1880 Checker-Bar Sew Along
Recreating vintage quilts is one of my favorite things
to do. Picking just the right fabrics and placing them just
so. Also taking a little creative license to add my own touch.
If you would like to join me for the next 12 week I will be
busy doing just that.

You can check out a few more details
about this vintage beauty here

Lets get started. Here are the details;
My version will be a crib size quilt approximately 40" x 47"
Finished block size 10" square and 5" x 10"

Fabric Requirements
A variety of prints - Use quilt image for inspiration
1 yard light solid - I am using Essex natural linen, find it here
1 yard red solid or print
1/4 yard tan solid or print
Follow this simple method to assemble each block.
Arrange all 1-1/2" squares on your work surface using the
antique quilt or your own imagination for color placement.
Starting in the upper left corner, chain piece the first two
columns of squares all the way down the left side of the block.
Remove the unit from the sewing machine without cutting
your chain apart. Do not press.
Starting once again at the top of the block layout, chain
piece the third column of 1-1/2" squares to the two column
chain created in the previous step, joining the third column of
squares to the second column of two squares. Remove the
three square chain from your machine. Do not cut the
chain apart or press.
Continue this technique until you have added all the
columns in the block to the chain. You should have 10 rows
of squares chained together. Take your joined rows to the
ironing board and press the seam allowances in opposite
directions from row to row.
Sew the rows together in order, pressing the seam
allowances toward the top of the block. The completed block
should measure 10-1/2" square, including seam allowances.
